During a 12 month residency she took her work out into the landscape, making a series of temporary site-specific sculptures within the Surrey woodlands.
Pools of hand cast paper petals, drawn lines and enclosures appeared and disappeared across the landscape. Some of the pieces were in place for a few days, others only a few hours.
The project was also supported by The Friends of St George’s Church and The Churches Conservation Trust who invited Jane to be their first artist in residence at St George’s Church, Esher.
Artist Jane Ponsford is inspired by structures and shapes found in nature, the webs of connections that you find in plants or cells. Her work is often ephemeral and delicate and involves repetitive, laborious processes, constructing sculptural forms made up of hundreds of near identical fragments, mirroring the delicate, fragile beauty of nature.
ArtsAgenda worked with Jane Ponsford as mentors for this 2007 project.Funded by Arts Council England, The RC Sherriff Trust and Elmbridge Borough Council.
