City
Running is:
– a live arts event exploring the urban environment in an engaging and
spontaneous way;
– a means of production, dissemination of ideas, and the exhibition
of new work;
– a space for artists to challenge their creative process, open dialogue
with artists from other disciplines, and foster collaborative work;
– a place for artist and audience to meet and demystify the creative
process. The
first event in the series took place in Brighton 2006. Artists from all disciplines
react to late night urban phenomena, and engage the audience in active debate
around their resident city.
City Running started in Brighton 2006 with a pilot event. It involved, local,
national and international artists, and engaged them in late night creative
reconnaissance and interventions from the gallery base. Participants
included: visual artists, actors, musicians, writers, performance artists,
traceurs, architects, graphic designers, photographers, digital artists and
sculptors.

“City
Running is not just a way of generating an exhibition of experimental work,
it is a way of celebrating and reflecting each city’s differences, championing
its artistic community, and investigating current art practice."
Greg Daville,
founder of City Running
